« Je crois qu’il existe de nombreux lieux construits par l’homme où cet équilibre entre la matière, le temps et la nature est atteint. Certains font partie de notre compréhension collective de ce qu’est un « bon espace architectural », tandis que d’autres sont plus subjectifs et répondent à des visions personnelles du monde. Par exemple, l’Alhambra de Grenade en Espagne possède cette beauté atemporelle où tous les sens sont stimulés par l’intégration parfaite des éléments naturels et des matériaux de construction. On retrouve également cette qualité atemporelle dans les anciens espaces religieux, comme l’église catholique de Santa Maria del Naranco à Oviedo (Espagne), qui est l’une de mes préférées. Mais se promener dans le parc Stanley de Vancouver peut produire un sentiment similaire de bien-être et d’élévation spirituelle, ou simplement s’asseoir sous un porche bien conçu en observant un lac, un coucher de soleil, une forêt…

Des bâtiments plus récents qui, à mon avis, atteignent ce bel équilibre sont les Thermes Vals de Peter Zumthor (Suisse) ou l’Universidad Adolfo Ibanez de Jose Cruz Ovalle (Chili). » (Livret Expériences Vécues Positives de la Qualité dans l’Environnement Bâti 2023, p.262).

« I believe there are many man-made places where this balance between matter, time and nature is achieved. Some make part of our collective understanding of what a ‘good architectural space’ is, whereas others are more subjective and respond to personal views of the world. For example, the Alhambra de Granada in Spain has this atemporal beauty where all your senses are stimulated by the perfect integration of natural elements and construction materials. There is also some of that atemporal quality in old religious spaces, for example the Catholic Church of Santa Maria del Naranco in Oviedo (Spain) is one favourite of mine. But walking in Vancouver’s Stanley Park can produce a similar sense of wellbeing and spiritual lifting or just sitting in a well-designed porch observing a lake, a sunset, a forest…
